Projex client, the Chocolate Works Care Village in York, has won its first industry award.
Springfield Healthcare’s prestigious renovation of the former Terry’s Chocolate head office building into a £7 million care village has been awarded Refurbishment Project of the Year in the 2017 Healthcare Estates Awards organised by the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM), the UK’s largest specialist Institute for the Healthcare Estates Sector.
The development is part of a multi-million pound expansion programme by Springfield Healthcare to establish five new care villages and a new care centre for working age adults with the aim of setting new benchmarks for how care environments are designed and built.
Projex is the appointed project manager on all six facilities and handed over the prestigious Chocolate Works development in May this year.
The Chocolate Works provides 82 care suites and 8 luxury apartments and features a covered two-storey market square with new mezzanine level as the centrepiece and social hub of the building, incorporating trees, walkways with street lamps, shop fronts and outdoor style cafes and restaurants. A single storey roof top extension and large roof terrace will allow residents to enjoy uninterrupted views across York towards the Minster, adjoining race course and across the rest of the chocolate works site.
