In just two years, the H&S team has become an integral part of the Projex client service offering, acting for clients requiring the full building solutions package, as well as a stand-alone service for architects, contractors and other consultants, as Ciara Walsh at Pozzoni Architects comments:
“I worked alongside Projex during the latter design stages, procurement and construction phase of the Belong Care Village scheme at Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
“Their assistance and advice on site logistics, planning of the demolition phase and access for maintenance at our workshops was extremely useful. Also, their regular attendances on site during the construction phase meant they were able to deal with H&S issues in a pragmatic and timely manner.”
Highlights over the last 12 months include:
- Advising on £245m worth of student/resi accommodation across several UK sites equating to 3,200 beds.
- Advised on 2.25m sq ft of retail space and 5m sq ft of industrial space.
- New contracts including Baltic Wharf a £60m development in Totnes; No1 Club Lounge and an Executive Lounge on International Pier at Birmingham International Airport; SOYO Phase 1 – Blocks E & F at Quarry Hill, Leeds and several Bannatyne Health Club projects in partnership with Mesh Architects.
Being retained by DW Sports & Fitness to provide a range of Principal Designer services.
- Project value range from £20k to £110m, from the high profile – eg £34m residential block on Custom House Street, Cardiff which will be the tallest building in Wales when completed – to small demolition site clearances. As well as Principal Designer services, the team are also able to offer specific H&S services such as training and fire risk assessments.
The department is headed by Chris Thomson, who launched the new division in summer 2016 alongside former colleague, Steve Silver and existing consultant, Sue Fullard. It expanded during its first year with the appointments of Sarah-Jane Denniss in Leeds and Martin McGoldrick in London, both joining as senior health and safety consultants.
Continued growth has led to Jayne Wragg recently joining the team, bringing a solid grounding in construction health & safety with eleven years’ experience in the field and already making a major contribution.
