The newly opened Village leisure extension at Landsec’s White Rose Shopping Centre has been shortlisted in the RICS Awards 2018, Yorkshire & Humber Commercial category, in recognition of its status as one of the most innovative projects in Yorkshire and for its positive impact on local communities.
Projex was the appointed project manager, QS and principal designer on the £24m, 65,000 sq ft development, which opened last summer. It includes an 11 screen Cineworld with IMAX cinema, six new restaurants, dynamic event space, bespoke outdoor play area and provision for a late-night element.
The project also includes 3,000 solar PV modules installed on the existing roof of the White Rose Shopping Centre which is believed to be the largest roof installation on a UK shopping centre, maybe even in Europe.
The design team consisted of the Harris Partnership (architect), BWB Consulting (structural, civil engineers & travel planning co-ordinators), LDA (public realm designers) and MRB Consulting (services engineers)
The regional winners will be announced on Friday, 11 May 2018 and then compete to be overall category winner and for the Project of the Year 2018 — at the RICS Awards 2018 Grand Final.
